Free · Live on Zoom · Replay included

You've probably heard a lot of birth stories. But has anyone actually taught you how to prepare your body for it?

Maybe you've read the books, taken a childbirth class, or started thinking about your birth preferences. But when it comes to what your body will actually be doing during labor, you might still have a few questions.

Will I tear?

Is there anything I can do to prepare my pelvic floor beforehand?

How will I know how to push?

What positions should I try?

Will I still have options if I get an epidural?

And when contractions get intense, how do I keep myself from tensing up?

These are questions I hear from pregnant women in my office all the time. The good news? There are practical things you can learn and practice during pregnancy to help you feel more prepared for labor.

And you don't have to wait until you're in the delivery room to start learning them.

Preparing your pelvic floor for labor isn't about getting stronger.

When most women think about preparing their pelvic floor for birth, they think about Kegels and strengthening exercises. And while building strength is important for supporting your changing body during pregnancy and preparing for postpartum recovery, your pelvic floor has a very different job during labor.

During vaginal birth, those same muscles need to lengthen, relax, and make room for your baby.

But how do you actually prepare your body for that? And how do you learn to work with your body when labor gets intense?

That's where physical and mental preparation come together.

In this free webinar, you'll learn:

01

What your pelvic floor actually needs to do during labor.

Learn why your pelvic floor needs to lengthen and relax during birth, and why preparing for labor requires a different approach than strengthening alone.

02

How labor positions can influence your birth experience.

Why positioning and movement matter during labor and how your options may change depending on your birth preferences.

03

The role of perineal preparation in birth.

What perineal massage is, why it's often recommended during pregnancy, and what you should know before trying it.

04

Why the way you breathe and push matters.

How your breathing, pelvic floor, and mental preparation work together during labor and why understanding your options ahead of time can make a difference.

MEET YOUR HOST

Hi, I’m Dr. Crystal Heath.

I’m a pelvic floor physical therapist and the founder of Pelvic Health by Crystal. I specialize in helping women through pregnancy, postpartum, pelvic pain, and bladder and bowel concerns, both in my office in Del Mar, California, in my satellite office in Golden Hill and online.

A big part of my work with pregnant patients is giving them the knowledge and tools to feel prepared for labor before they're actually in it. We explore ways to support your body and optimize the physical process of labor, so you understand your options and can choose what feels right in the moment. My goal is to give you the physical preparation you need to pair with the mental side of birth, so you can go into labor feeling informed, prepared, and confident.

One of the questions I hear all the time is, “How do I actually prepare my body for birth?”

There’s so much information out there, but many women still get to the end of pregnancy without really understanding what their body needs to do during labor or how the physical and mental pieces of preparation work together.

That’s why I created this webinar: to help you understand what actually matters when preparing for labor, so you can feel more informed and confident going into your birth.
